James Jarvis joins line up

James Jarvis, illustrator and pioneer of the designer toy revolution, is to join the previously announced Lance Wyman and Simon Manchipp on the keynote line-up at Designival – the North’s biggest design festival.

Raised on a diet of Richard Scarry, Hergé, Judge Dredd and Albert Camus, James studied Illustration at the University of Brighton and the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1995.

As a freelance graphic artist, he has worked for clients including Coca-Cola, Converse, MTV, Nike, Nokia, Sony and Stüssy, and has had his work featured in publications worldwide.

From 2002 – 2012, James also ran his own company, Amos, in partnership with Russell Waterman. As well as releasing over 100 character toys, Amos’ work also includes graphics, comics, curating a music festival and designing a crazy-golf hole. If that wasn’t enough, he is also currently drawing a daily cartoon strip, Spheric Dialogues.

His appearance at Designival will be a unique or rare opportunity to hear James talking about his influences, personal experiences in the field and thoughts on keeping the balance between big brand work and labours of love – all whilst doodling the event itself live.
